How to read this data

What the numbers measure and why they matter.

How it is calculated

dominance = BTC market cap ÷ total market cap

Bitcoin’s market cap divided by the market cap of all cryptocurrencies.

Rising dominance

Money is concentrating in bitcoin, which often happens when investors are cautious or new ETF money arrives.

Falling dominance

Other coins are growing faster — sometimes called an altcoin season.

About this page

Bitcoin dominance, often written BTC.D, is bitcoin's share of the whole crypto market: bitcoin's market cap divided by the total market cap of all cryptocurrencies. This page charts it over a day, a week, a month or a year, next to ether's share and the stablecoin share, and lists the ten largest assets with their market cap and share of the total.

A rising BTC dominance means money is concentrating in bitcoin, which often happens when investors turn cautious or new ETF money arrives. A falling reading means other coins are growing faster, the condition traders call altcoin season. Stablecoins sit inside the total, so growing stablecoin supply can pull bitcoin's share down while its price stays flat.

Readings come from CoinGecko's global data, which World-Crypt records every time it refreshes, about every 30 minutes. The total includes every coin and token CoinGecko lists, stablecoins among them, so the figure can differ a little from sites that build the total from another coin list. Use the change over time rather than a single reading.

Questions

Short answers to what people ask most.

Bitcoin holds 58.7% of the total crypto market cap, a change of +0.1 points over the past 24 hours.

Bitcoin's market cap divided by the total crypto market cap. Both figures come from the same CoinGecko global data at each refresh, about every 30 minutes.

Bitcoin is gaining market share, or losing less than other coins. It often comes with cautious markets or fresh ETF demand for bitcoin.

Other coins are growing faster than bitcoin. A long fall is what traders call altcoin season, though growing stablecoin supply can lower the share too.

Stablecoin supply is part of the total crypto market cap, so when it grows bitcoin's share can fall even if its price is flat.

Ether's share of the total crypto market cap, 11.3% right now. It is worked out the same way as bitcoin dominance.
