How to read this data
What the numbers measure and why they matter.
What a liquidation is
When losses on a leveraged position use up its margin, the exchange closes it automatically.
Longs vs shorts
Long liquidations happen when prices fall; short liquidations when they rise. Large waves can speed up price moves.
Reading the numbers
Exchanges report liquidations with delays and some only report a sample, so totals are best read as estimates.
About this page
A crypto liquidation happens when losses on a leveraged position use up its margin and the exchange closes it automatically. This page totals those forced closes for the past 24 hours, splits them into longs and shorts, and breaks them down by coin and by exchange. The largest single liquidations are listed with the pair, side, size and time in UTC.
Long liquidations pile up when prices fall, and short liquidations when they rise. A large wave can feed on itself: each forced sale or purchase moves the price further and pushes the next group of positions past their margin. Traders call that chain a liquidation cascade, and the daily chart shows the days when one hit the market.
Records come from OKX, for markets with more than $10 million of open interest, and from Gate, which publishes every liquidation order. Binance, Bybit and Hyperliquid only stream liquidations live, so they are not in the totals. Exchanges report late and some send only part of their orders, so read the sums as estimates. Figures refresh every 15 minutes.
Questions
Short answers to what people ask most.
An exchange closes a leveraged position on its own once losses use up the margin behind it. The trader does not choose the exit and loses most or all of that margin.
$36.69 million across OKX and Gate over the past 24 hours. Binance, Bybit and Hyperliquid are not counted, so the market-wide figure is higher.
Longs made up 53% of the liquidations over the past day, and shorts the rest.
A chain of forced closes. Liquidated positions are sold or bought at market, the price moves further, and more positions run out of margin. Cascades make sharp moves sharper.
From OKX, for its markets with more than $10 million of open interest, and from Gate, which publishes every liquidation order. Figures refresh every 15 minutes.
They publish liquidations only as live streams, with no history to collect, so they are not part of the totals.
