How the market cap calculator works

The number that makes coins with different supplies comparable.

Market cap

market cap = price × circulating supply

The total value of every coin in circulation, and the usual way to rank cryptocurrencies by size.

Implied price

price = market cap ÷ circulating supply

Divide a market cap by the supply to get the price that goes with it — the heart of this calculator.

Supply matters

If new coins are released, the same market cap spreads over more coins and the implied price falls. Fully diluted value uses max supply instead.

About this page

Market cap is a coin's price multiplied by its circulating supply, the usual way to compare cryptocurrencies of very different size. This crypto market cap calculator runs that formula backwards. Pick a coin and enter a target market cap or a target price, and it returns the implied price or market cap, the multiple from today's level and the rank the coin would hold.

The comparison table puts the chosen coin at the market cap of each of the largest coins, so you can see what reaching their size would mean as a price. The circulating supply field can be changed: if more coins are released, the same market cap spreads over more coins and the implied price falls. Fully diluted valuation uses max supply instead.

Prices are live and refresh every 5 minutes. A price target only makes sense next to the market cap it implies: if a target would make a small coin larger than bitcoin, it needs a very strong reason. The calculator does the arithmetic and plots the result on a log scale against the largest coins. It does not predict prices.

Questions

Short answers to what people ask most.

Multiply the current price by the circulating supply. A coin at $2 with 500 million coins in circulation has a market cap of $1 billion.

Divide the target market cap by the circulating supply. The calculator does this for any coin in the picker and shows the multiple from today's price.

Supplies differ hugely. A coin at $0.50 with 100 billion coins is worth more in total than one at $1,000 with 10 million coins. Market cap puts both on the same scale.

Circulating supply is what trades now. Total supply adds coins that exist but are locked. Max supply is the hard cap, if there is one; bitcoin's is 21 million.

Price times max supply: what the market cap would be if every coin were already in circulation. It matters for coins with large future token releases.

Compare the market cap it implies with the largest coins. If the target would put a coin above bitcoin's market cap, it needs a very strong reason. The tool calculates; it does not forecast.
