Bitcoin, sats and dollars

Three ways to write the same amount.

One bitcoin

1 BTC = 100,000,000 sats

Bitcoin can be divided into 100 million pieces, so you never need to buy a whole coin.

From BTC to dollars

dollars = BTC × price

Multiply the amount of bitcoin by the current price.

From dollars to sats

sats = dollars ÷ price × 100,000,000

Divide by the price to get BTC, then multiply by 100 million for sats.

About this page

The BTC to USD converter turns any amount of bitcoin or satoshis into US dollars at the live price, and dollars back into bitcoin. It also converts to euros, British pounds and Japanese yen. Quick buttons cover common amounts such as 0.01 BTC or 10,000 sats, and two conversion tables list sats to dollars and dollars to bitcoin at the current price.

A satoshi, or sat, is one hundred-millionth of a bitcoin, so 1 BTC equals 100,000,000 sats. Dollars are bitcoin times the price; sats are dollars divided by the price, times 100 million. Pricing small amounts in sats is common because most people buy a fraction of a coin rather than a whole one.

The live price comes from Binance, OKX and Coinbase and refreshes every 5 minutes. The bitcoin price chart uses one closing price per UTC day since 2020, over ranges from a week to five years, with the change, high and low for each range. Other currencies use daily central bank reference rates, mostly from the European Central Bank.
