About this page
The crypto Fear and Greed Index is a daily score of market sentiment from 0, extreme fear, to 100, extreme greed. Alternative.me publishes it from six inputs: volatility and momentum with volume count for 25% each, social media and derivatives for 15% each, and bitcoin dominance and search trends for 10% each. Only the final score is published, not the inputs.
This page sets today's reading against yesterday, last week, last month and last year, and charts the history over a week to a year. Next to the chart sit the 30-day average, the yearly high and low and the share of days spent in greed, so the current crypto market sentiment can be read in context instead of as one number.
Scores from 0 to 24 count as extreme fear, 25 to 44 as fear, 45 to 54 as neutral, 55 to 74 as greed and 75 to 100 as extreme greed. Some traders treat extreme fear as a sign that selling is overdone, and extreme greed as a warning of a stretched market. The index describes mood; it is not a trading signal.
