How to verify an Ethereum mainnet transaction

You verify an Ethereum mainnet transaction by searching its hash in a block explorer and checking the status, from, to, value, and gas fee. Then save it.

Short answer

To verify an Ethereum mainnet transaction, copy its hash from your wallet or the sender's confirmation, paste it into an Ethereum block explorer, and check the status and details.

Ethereum mainnet is the live network where real ETH and tokens move. Every transaction gets a hash, and that hash is your proof. A block explorer lets you look up that hash and confirm what happened.

What is the quick answer?

The quick answer is to search your transaction hash in a block explorer set to Ethereum mainnet. A block explorer reads the Ethereum blockchain and shows each transaction. Paste the hash into the search field and open the result.

What do you need before you start?

Before you search, gather the hash and confirm the network. Your wallet shows activity under the account you used; the sender can also provide the hash.

Before you search

  • Find the transaction hash in your wallet's activity or the sender's confirmation.
  • Confirm your wallet is on Ethereum mainnet, not a testnet or another chain.
  • Set the block explorer to Ethereum mainnet before you search.

How do you verify it step by step?

Once you have the hash, use the explorer for the checks. Compare every field with your wallet.

  1. 1Open the explorerGo to a block explorer for Ethereum mainnet and check its network label.
  2. 2Paste the hashCopy the hash from your wallet and paste it into the search bar.
  3. 3Check the networkThe page should say Ethereum mainnet. A testnet explorer will not show a mainnet transaction.
  4. 4Read the statusLook for success, pending, or failed. Success means it was included in a block.
  5. 5Count confirmationsThe explorer shows how many blocks have been added since. Rare reorgs can still change the status.
  6. 6Review the detailsCheck from, to, value, and gas fee. Compare them with your wallet.
  7. 7Check token transfersIf tokens moved, open the token transfers or logs tab to see each transfer.

What should you do after verifying?

After success, save the transaction page or receipt. Check your wallet balances to confirm the expected amount. Never share your seed phrase with anyone.

Frequently asked questions

Your transaction is in the mempool, where it waits for a block proposer to pick it. High demand can delay inclusion, but it may still confirm later.

A failed status means the transaction was included in a block but the code or conditions did not complete. The gas fee is usually still spent.

You can sometimes replace a pending transaction with a new one that uses the same nonce and a higher gas fee. Your wallet must support that feature.

The explorer is likely set to the wrong network, or the hash is mistyped. Mainnet transactions do not appear on testnet or other chain explorers.
