About Tezos
XTZ, also called tez, is the native cryptocurrency of the Tezos blockchain, and holders use it to create and vote on Tezos protocol upgrade proposals as part of its on-chain governance. Tezos is an open-source blockchain that processes peer-to-peer transactions and hosts smart contracts.
Arthur and Kathleen Breitman wrote a 2014 white paper that introduced Tezos, using the pseudonym L.M. Goodman. According to the Tezos project, it was built to help developers avoid bugs in smart contracts, especially where security and certainty matter.
