Polygon is a blockchain network that runs Ethereum smart contracts, so applications built for Ethereum work on it as well. It uses Ethereum as its base network, and people use it for payments, gaming and prediction markets.
Polygon confirms transactions on its own network and then periodically records a summary of them on Ethereum. POL is its native token, used to pay fees on Polygon networks and to secure them, and as an ERC-20 token it works with other Ethereum cryptocurrencies.
