Which tokens can you transfer on Polygon PoS?
You can transfer Ethereum-compatible tokens, NFTs and POL on Polygon PoS, but a token needs its own contract on the network before you send it.

On this page
- Contracts on Polygon PoS are separate from Ethereum contracts.
- POL pays network fees and replaced MATIC in September 2024.
- Bridged and native versions may differ, so verify the contract.
Polygon PoS runs Ethereum-style contracts but keeps its own token contracts, so a token on Ethereum does not move there automatically.
What tokens can you transfer?
Ethereum-compatible fungible tokens, NFTs and POL move on Polygon PoS. Except for POL, a token is transferable only if its contract is deployed there. A project or a bridge can deploy that contract.
How do token transfers work?
Except for POL, a transfer calls the token's contract on Polygon PoS. You pay the network fee in POL. Polygon replaced MATIC with POL in September 2024, so MATIC no longer covers fees. Many bridged tokens differ from native tokens because a bridge locks or burns the original asset and issues a representation.
What risks should you watch for?
A common way to lose funds is to send a token on the wrong network or to an unsupported address. A blockchain transfer is not reversible. Wallets and exchanges vary in Polygon PoS token support, so check the receiving app before you send.
How is Polygon PoS different from Ethereum?
Polygon PoS is a separate network with its own contracts and fees, though it runs Ethereum-style contracts. A project that issues a token on Ethereum often deploys a second contract on Polygon PoS, so the same name can point to two different assets.
Frequently asked questions
No. Ethereum contracts do not carry over, so a token needs its own deployment on Polygon PoS.
Check the project's official documentation or a block explorer. Compare that address with your wallet's, because a fake can share the name.
It depends on the exchange and the token. On the withdrawal screen, pick Polygon PoS only if the exchange offers it. Otherwise the exchange may send on another network, and the funds may not arrive.
