Short answer

On the Sui network, you can transfer SUI and Coin-standard fungible tokens, though regulated coins can restrict transfers for denied addresses. Transferable NFTs, wrapped assets, and bridge-supported tokens usually move too, but some Sui tokens are non-transferable by design.

Sui is a layer-1 blockchain that stores each asset as an object with an owner. The token's own code decides whether a transfer is allowed, so what you can send depends on the token you hold.

What tokens can you transfer?

SUI and Coin-standard fungible tokens move between Sui addresses. Transferable Sui NFTs, wrapped assets, and bridge-supported tokens usually move as well. Sui Mainnet launched in May 2023, and bridges have since added support for assets from other chains.

Sui token types and whether you can send them
Token type Can you send it?
SUI Yes, to a Sui address
Coin-standard fungible token Yes
Transferable Sui NFT Yes
Wrapped or bridge-supported asset Usually, if the bridge and wallet support it

How do Sui token transfers work?

A Move module is the code that defines how a token behaves on Sui. Transfer rules sit in each token's Move module, not in one universal standard. The module either allows the transfer or the network rejects it.

Which Sui tokens cannot be transferred?

Some Sui tokens are non-transferable by design. A soulbound token is tied to one address and cannot move. A closed-loop token is meant for one app and cannot be sent outside it.

What limits or risks should you know?

Check that your wallet or exchange supports the exact token and Sui Mainnet. Support can lag for new or bridged tokens. Sending a token on the wrong network, or to an address that cannot receive it, can lose it.

Before you send a Sui token

  • Confirm the token is a Sui Mainnet asset, not a testnet one.
  • Check that your SUI balance covers the network fee.
  • Confirm your wallet supports sending that exact token.
  • Keep the transaction digest after the transfer confirms.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, if your wallet supports sending that Sui version. Bridged USDC or USDT is not native to Sui.

A wallet can display a token without supporting transfers for it. The token may also be soulbound or closed-loop.

Yes, usually. Sui charges a network fee in SUI, though a sponsor can pay it for you.

No. A bridged token represents an asset from another chain and depends on its bridge. A native token is issued on Sui itself.
