Ripple and Arf announce a partnership for settlement financing with RLUSD

Ripple and Swiss-regulated lender Arf announced a partnership on 22 October to bring RLUSD-based settlement finance to licensed cross-border payment companies. The announcement describes the planned model; it does not confirm that loans have already been issued through the programme.

The loans cover the gap before a payment settles

A payment company may need money in a destination market before incoming funds have completed their journey through banks and payment systems. Under the announced model, Arf would supply that temporary working capital in RLUSD, Ripple’s dollar-backed stablecoin, using the XRP Ledger.

The financing is designed for short periods, usually one to five days. Once the related customer payment arrives, the borrower repays the working capital and the same pool can be used again. Participating companies do not need to run their own blockchain systems because Arf connects conventional accounts with stablecoin treasury services.

Arf’s total volume is not the size of this programme

Arf says its existing business handles about 10 billion dollars in annual settlement volume and turns capital over roughly four times a month. That is the turnover of Arf’s wider business, not the budget of the new RLUSD programme and not an amount that Ripple has committed to lend.

The partners have not disclosed the programme’s initial budget. RLUSD would be the asset disbursed and repaid, while XRP would cover ledger transaction fees and applicable account reserves. This distinction prevents the company’s turnover, the programme budget and the lending currency from being confused.

Built-in XRP Ledger lending tools will come later

Arf intends to use the proposed built-in lending tools after two amendments activate. XLS-65 would introduce Single Asset Vaults, while XLS-66 would add the Lending Protocol. Neither amendment is live on the XRP Ledger mainnet, so the partnership cannot yet be described as a launch of lending built directly into XRPL.

Credit decisions will remain offchain even after that technical change. Arf will assess borrowers, set terms, complete identity and risk checks and manage legal agreements. The ledger can manage funds and repayments, but it does not make the lending decision itself.
