Bitcoin and Ether slide as a technology sell-off reaches crypto markets

Bitcoin moved below $76,000 and Ether fell more sharply as losses in US technology shares spread across risk markets. Forced liquidations increased the speed of the move, but the quoted prices remain snapshots from a fast-changing session.

The decline began outside the crypto market

Technology and semiconductor shares sold off as investors questioned the returns on heavy spending for artificial-intelligence infrastructure. Crypto-related companies and mining shares were among the weakest parts of the equity market.

Bitcoin then gave back the rebound that followed the US midterm elections. Ether, Solana and XRP also fell, showing that the move was broader than one asset or one exchange.

Leverage made the fall faster

More than one billion dollars of leveraged positions were liquidated during the rolling 24-hour period cited by market trackers. Most of those positions were bets on rising prices, so the forced closures added new selling into an already weak market.

Liquidation totals depend on the platforms and time window used. They should be treated as estimates of market stress, not as a complete record of every position closed.

A price snapshot is not a forecast

Bitcoin traded near $76,000 during the US close on 5 November and briefly moved lower in early 6 November trading. Ether was near $2,200 as risk appetite remained weak.

The next move depends on whether technology shares stabilise and whether leveraged positions continue to unwind. A short rebound would not by itself confirm that the selling is over, just as one sharp session does not define the longer trend.
